This book is a curated compilation of seemingly random objects that, when contextualized, offer strangers a deeper understanding of who I am on a more personal level. Inspired by the system of state symbols, which also initially appear random but provide valuable insight into a state's history, I embarked on a journey to explore this metaphor. Through research into state symbols, I pondered the question: If I were a state, what would my symbols be? This exploration led to the creation of 'The State of Sophia,' a collection of symbols that reflect who I am and why.
The State of Sophia is a blizzard book structure filled with illustrated and typeset cards. I decided to illustrate each symbol to personalize them further while giving the entire book a cohesive look and feel.
